February 8: The Thorn, or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love Archaic Letter-Symbol-Thingies


I’m working on a Great Moments In Baseball comic about a guy from about the era of this fine young specimen, so this is what’s rattling around in my brain right now. 

Did you know that the “Ye” as in “Ye Olde [fill in the blank]”  is actually pronounced “The”?  The letter “Y” is an approximation of something called a “thorn” that was pronounced “thhh”.  Or so I’ve been told.
